Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton, a former Auburn star, will miss this Monday’s game against Tampa Bay due to a concussion suffered last weekend against Atlanta.

Newton has taken several big hits this year, something those close to him would like to see changed, according to ESPN.com:

Those close to Newton have urged him to get down, out of bounds or into the end zone quicker than he did last week, when he allowed the Falcons a free shot at him, and he has acknowledged the message and said he will do a better job of protecting himself when he can, sources said.

Backup QB Derek Anderson will start in Newton’s place on Monday night. The Panthers, at 1-3, need a victory to get back on track for the playoffs.
