Former Auburn wide receiver Duke Williams sounds like he’s eager to leave a troubled college career behind and start fresh with the Los Angeles Rams.

Speaking with the Orange County Register, Williams made clear his intention to stay focused on his work in the NFL.

“They gave me this chance,” Williams told the newspaper. “I’m not here to blow my chance.”

Williams, signed in early May after attending the Rams’ rookie minicamp as a tryout player, was suspended twice at Auburn and eventually kicked off the team last year. He was booted after he was involved in an incident outside a bar following the Tigers’ win over San Jose State on Oct. 3. Auburn reserve center Xavier Dampeer missed the rest of the reason with a jaw injury following the fight.

Williams has attended counseling in an attempt to chart a new path for himself. He had 45 catches for 730 yards with five touchdowns for the Tigers in 2014, but he totaled just 12 receptions for 147 yards with one touchdown last year.

“I look at life a totally different way,” Williams said. “Not everybody’s against me. Not everybody wants to hurt me.”

Hopefully, Williams can turn his life around and find a place with the Rams.
