Could former Clemson OC Chad Morris be a South Carolina contender? Dabo speaks
SMU coach Chad Morris, a former offensive coordinator at Clemson from 2011-14, is reportedly interested in the opening at South Carolina due to obvious ties to the Palmetto State and a gig in the SEC.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked if Morris would be a good fit with the Gamecocks on Wednesday.
“I think he’s got a great job. You’d have to ask Chad (about) that,” Swinney said, according to The Post & Courier. “I think he’s a great coach, obviously, and he’s focused on doing a great job where he’s at. If there’s another job out there he’s interested in, that’s up to him.”

The offensive-minded Morris, who helped the Tigers win an ACC Championship and set school records with quarterback Tajh Boyd and playmaker Sammy Watkins, is currently 1-5 in his first season at SMU without much talent.
His tempo-driven spread attack is exciting to watch and he was Clemson’s top recruiter during his time on staff. Morris is another high school-to-college coaching story who has made the transition look rather easy.
Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and Memphis head coach Justin Fuente remain two of the front-runners according to oddsmakers, but Morris could be an ideal fit based on what the Gamecocks are looking for in their next head coach.
