Former Florida standout DB Duke Dawson placed on injured reserve by Patriots
Former Florida defensive back Duke Dawson surprised a lot of people when he decided to push the NFL back one year and stay for his senior season in 2017, but it seems he will have to wait a little bit longer to make his debut.
Dawson, who was drafted by the New England Patriots with the No. 56 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, was placed on injured reserve by the Patriots after injuring his hamstring in the summer.
According to NBCSports, Dawson is the fifth member of the Patriots 2018 draft class to be placed on the list.
In his senior season at Florida, Dawson racked up 34 tackles, four interceptions, and nine pass-breakups. He ended his career with 48 games played and six interceptions, with three of them returned for touchdowns.
The Cross City, Florida native was expected to get playing time at nickelback this season for the Patriots, and he only played in the first preseason game of 2018. The Patriots promoted wide receiver Riley McCarron from the practice squad to fill Dawson’s roster spot.
Dawson’s season may not be completely lost, however, as the Patriots can determine that he is eligible to return after six weeks spend on injured reserve. If this determination is made, Dawson will have to wait at least eight weeks before seeing NFL game action.
