Kadarius Toney’s Mobile, Alabama homecoming included more than just playing in Saturday’s Senior Bowl.
Blount High School coach Lev Holly announced that Toney’s No. 4 jersey would be retired during a “virtual fan day” the school held for the former Florida standout.
“It’s on the wall,” Holly said, per Ben Thomas of AL.com. “Done deal. He was my first quarterback. I think he’s done enough around here to solidify himself as one of the best to ever play at Blount High School. I know it was an honor to coach him.”
Toney would have to grant permission for any future player to wear No. 4, Holly told Thomas.
Though Toney played quarterback at Blount, he was rated a 3-star “ATH” as a recruit on 247Sports. Though his play at quarterback impressed during UF’s 2017 spring game, Toney ended up playing wide receiver (with some snaps as a wildcat QB).
Toney wore three jersey numbers, including No. 4, during his four seasons at Florida. He wore No. 17 during his freshman season before switching to No. 4 as a sophomore. As a junior and senior he wore No. 1, which has been made a special honor under Dan Mullen.
Toney finished his college career with 120 receptions for 1,590 yards and 12 touchdowns. His senior season accounted for the bulk of his receiving production (70 catches, 984 yards, 10 TDs). He also carried the ball 66 times in his career for 580 yards and 2 TDs. He threw a touchdown in his only pass of the 2018 season.
