Original story:
Former Florida Gators WR Ricky Pearsall is making a quick recovery after suffering a gunshot wound in an attempted robbery on Saturday night, according to a new report from Matt Maiocco, who covers the San Francisco 49ers for NBC.
“Good news: 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has been upgraded to “fair condition,” reports Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital,” Maiocco posted on X on Sunday afternoon. “Pearsall spent the night in the hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest as the victim of an alleged armed robbery attempt.”
On Saturday night, multiple national reporters broke the news of Pearsall — who was drafted by the 49ers in the first round last April — getting shot in the chest during an attempted robbery involving the former Florida star’s Rolex watch.
The San Francisco Police Department confirmed the reports by releasing an official statement on social media.
“During the preliminary investigation, officers learned one of the subjects attempted to rob the victim, San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Pearsall. During the attempted robbery, a physical altercation ensued, and both the suspect and victim were injured. The suspect is in custody and charges are pending at this time. All information is preliminary, and more information will be provided as it becomes available. Media availability will be held this evening at San Francisco General Hospital.”
It was later reported that Pearsall was in “serious” condition, so today’s news that he’s been upgraded to “fair condition” is obviously a positive sign.
On Sunday, Pearsall’s mother took to social media with an emotional post thanking God that her son survived the shooting and the bullet missed vital organs.
As of now, there’s no timeline for his recovery or any indication as to when he will be able to resume football activities.
