Former Kansas and Washburn running back Brandon Bourbon was found dead on Friday, according to wibw.com.
Bourbon, who had reportedly been missing since April 2, was located on a secluded river front property. The Maries County Sheriff’s Office said after an investigation that his death was ruled a suicide.
“Everything with Brandon, as far as when he was here, he was such a bright kid, always positive,” Washburn coach Craig Schurig said. “He came here and had a tremendous attitude right from the beginning.”
From 2011-13 with the Jayhawks, Bourbon received 81 carries and took them for 422 yards (5.2 ypc) and four touchdowns before suffering an injury that kept him off the field for his senior season. In 2015, he transferred to Washburn, recording a team-high 937 yards on 219 carries (4.3 ypc) with four touchdowns.
“Our hearts are broken to hear the news of the passing of Brandon Bourbon,” said current Kansas coach David Beaty. “Brandon was a wonderful teammate and friend. He was a tireless worker both on the field and in the classroom and was a constant source of inspiration within our program.
“The entire Jayhawk family cared very deeply for him and he will always be in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon’s family and friends.”
