Former LSU defensive back Derek Stingley will miss at least 4 games due to injury.

Stingley suffered a hamstring injury in Houston Texans practice on Wednesday. The Texans have decided to place him on injured reserve.

The 4-week IR absence would have Stingley sidelined through Week 6. Houston is then on a bye in Week 7, meaning his earliest return would be in Week 8 when the Texans travel to Carolina to face the Panthers on Oct. 29.

Stingley was an LSU standout, earning consensus All-American recognition as a freshman on the Tigers’ 2019 national championship squad. He made just 10 appearances over his final 2 seasons due to health issues. The Texans were unfazed and selected Stingley No.3 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

As a rookie, Stingley made 9 appearances as a starting cornerback. He recorded 43 tackles, including 33 solo stops with 1 sack. In coverage, Stingley had 5 passes defended, including an interception of Trevor Lawrence.

Stingley started the first 2 games of Houston’s season. He has recorded 9 tackles (8 solo) so far.
