Although most rookie contracts fall within a certain range depending on where a player is drafted, there is still a little wiggle room for agents to negotiate the best deal for their clients. Very rarely does a player holdout over their rookie deal, as was the case with former Ohio State star Joey Bosa last season, but it’s still a cause for celebration when they sign on the dotted line.
Former LSU defensive lineman Davon Godchaux is the latest SEC alum to sign his rookie contract. The fifth-round pick agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday afternoon, according to a tweet by the organization.

In his three seasons at LSU, Godchaux recorded 139 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss and 12.5 sacks. According to Over the Cap, which calculates projected contract figures, Godchaux’s total value as the No. 178 overall pick is just over $2.6 million with a four-year average of $650,487.
