Former LSU RB John Emery Jr. is looking for a new opportunity to play college football in 2025.

On March 20th, Emery announced on social media via his agency that he would be returning to college football for a final season. The 2025 season will be Year 7 of his career.

After Emery’s announcement, Tigers coach Brian Kelly was asked about the running back’s status with the program. Kelly said he wished Emery well, but noted that LSU was already set at running back for 2025.

We haven’t talked to John about it, and it was the first that we had heard,” Kelly told reporters on March 22. “We love John. But sometimes, you know, things happen and we don’t know where they came from. We will be supportive in any way we can, but we are set where we are at in terms of the running back position. Love John, and we will be here to help and support him.

Emery’s college career began in 2019. The 2020 season did not count against his eligibility due to COVID-19 conditions. He then missed all of 2021. The 2024 season was set to be his sixth-year super senior season, but was cut short by an ACL injury, limiting him to just 1 appearance.

For his career, Emery has played in 38 games, making 5 starts. He has rushed 223 times for 1,123 yards and 14 touchdowns.
