WBRZ, citing sources, reports the cause of death was suicide. Lacy was due in court Monday to face negligent homicide charges for his involvement in a fatal Dec. 17 crash.
News of Lacy’s involvement in the crash broke on Jan. 10. On Feb. 2, Lacy’s defense attorney, Matthew Ory, released a lengthy statement saying Lacy did not cause the fatal crash.
Lacy had been on track for a potential professional football opportunity. He had declared for the 2025 NFL Draft in December, days after the crash, which was addressed in Ory’s statement.
A native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Lacy began his college career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2020. After 2 seasons playing for the Ragin’ Cajuns, he joined LSU ahead of the 2022 season.
Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL Draft ahead of LSU’s appearance in the Texas Bowl against Baylor. He recorded 58 catches for 866 yards and 9 touchdowns over 12 games in the 2024 season.
