Former Mississippi State standout Chauncey Rivers suffers serious knee injury in Packers practice

According to ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky, Mississippi State’s former defensive end/linebacker Chauncey Rivers sustained a severe injury at the very end of a Green Bay Packers practice on Wednesday, October 6.
Demovsky reported that Rivers “tore his ACL on the second-to-last play of practice (Wednesday).”
His entire tweet from Thursday afternoon looked like this:
Packers OLB Chauncey Rivers tore his ACL on the second-to-last play of practice yesterday, a source said.@RapSheet first with the news that he sustained an injury.
For now, Jaylon Smith can take that roster spot, but they’ll likely need another OLB soon.

Rivers, 24, played three seasons for the Bulldogs (2017-19) before signing with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He racked up 67 tackles (15 for loss) and 7.5 sacks in college.
NFL.com national insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier on Thursday that Rivers had sustained an injury:
#Packers edge rusher Chauncey Rivers suffered a non-contact knee injury at practice yesterday, source said, and is being evaluated for a potentially significant injury. He’s slated to miss time either way and likely heads to IR to make room for Jaylon Smith today.

Rivers was making a base salary of $660,000. The Packers signed OLB Jaylon Smith on Thursday afternoon after news of Rivers’ injury broke.
