Former Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson makes decision about final year of eligibility at Michigan
Ole Miss fans will have to watch Shea Patterson quarterback another team for one more season.
Patterson is returning to Michigan for his senior year, he revealed in a Friday report by The Detroit News. The signal-caller left Oxford last season after the Rebels received a 2018 bowl ban in response to NCAA violations.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound quarterback figured to be a third-round prospect in the 2019 NFL Draft, according to an October report from WolverinesWire.
Patterson, a former 5-star recruit who was unanimously rated as the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2016, ultimately won a long battle with the NCAA to obtain a waiver that allowed him to play for the Wolverines immediately despite transferring.
He promptly completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,364 yards, 21 touchdowns and just five interceptions as the Wolverines won 10 games and spent most of the season as a national title contender. But Michigan’s championship dreams were dashed in a blowout loss to Ohio State in the final week of the regular season, which Patterson said was one of his biggest motivations to return.
If Patterson had stayed at Ole Miss, he’d be in a great position to lead the Rebels to a bowl in 2019 after being pressed into action as a freshman and enduring an injury-shortened sophomore campaign. To make the sting of losing Patterson even worse for Ole Miss fans, he told The Detroit News that transferring to Michigan “was probably the best decision of my life.”
