After being waived by the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, former Ole Miss receiver Cody Core was not out of work long.
In a move first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Core was claimed on waivers by the New York Giants on Sunday.
An Auburn, Ala., native, Core was a three-star prospect and the No. 55 player in the state in the 2012 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
The only SEC school to extend Core an offer, the Rebels were rewarded with 83 receptions for 1,297 yards and 10 touchdowns from 2012-15. Core’s last two years in Oxford were particularly effective as he caught 78 passes for 1,202 yards.
The Bengals drafted him in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In his three years with Cincinnati, he totaled 30 catches for 360 yards and a touchdown.
With former LSU standout Odell Beckham Jr. no longer in the picture and Golden Tate suspended for the first four games due to a performance-enhancing drug violation, perhaps Core will have an opportunity to make an impact in the NFC East.
