South Carolina (4-3, 3-3 SEC) got a huge conference win at home on Saturday against Tennessee, 27-24. It was a relieving moment for South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp, who got his fourth win of the season and maintained his perfect record against the Vols, now at 7-0.

Muschamp has by no means been on the hot seat, but it has certainly been a bit of a disappointing season to the South Carolina faithful, who had big expectations coming off a nine win season and plenty of returning starters.

Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, one of those returning starters was not tight end Hayden Hurst, who was selected with the 25th overall pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Hurst was asked about how much he is able to keep up with the South Carolina program, with his busy life as a rookie in the NFL.

“It’s hard to watch, Saturdays we have meetings and stuff” said Hurst, “I got to watch last night, it’s a big win, huge win for them.

“I’m all for Coach Muschamp” he continued, “I know some people, you know, are kind of pointing fingers and blaming, but, I mean, he’s an incredible coach. If you listen to the guy, he knows what he’s doing, he knows what he’s talking about. And if people are patient and just give him time to get his plan in there, I mean, he’s got the blueprint.

“I think South Carolina is going to do great things, I love Coach Muschamp.”

Hurst had over 1,000 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in his career at South Carolina under Will Muschamp, who is 19-14 overall as the Gamecocks’ head coach in his third season at the helm.

The win over Tennessee will take some of the pressure off as South Carolina’s chances to make a bowl game are much clearer, however road games at Ole Miss, Florida, and Clemson still loom large going into Week 10.
