Mike Sherman, who went 25-25 in four years at Texas A&M, has found a new job in the game of football. It’s not at the NFL level, where he was the head coach for the Green Bay Packers and most recently the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator, and it’s not in college either.

Instead, Sherman is heading back to his roots. On Saturday night, The Cape Cod (Mass.) Times reported that Sherman has accepted a job at Nauset High School in Cape Cod. Sherman is a Massachusetts native and resides in West Dennis, Mass., according to the report.

Sherman has been away from the game since he parted ways with the Dolphins in 2013. He settled with his family in Massachusetts, not wanting to put them through another move, he told the Cape Cod Times. After taking some time off, though, Sherman wanted to get back to the game.

“When I came to the Cape a year ago I felt I was done in coaching,” Sherman said in the interview linked above. “I’ve loved coaching in the NFL and college for the last 33 years, but I am definitely looking forward to working with the kids at Nauset.”

Sherman said that it helps that he made pretty good money during his coaching career, allowing him to comfortably step down to the high school level.

“I guess I’d say, why not? I’ve been fortunate financially over the years, which is allowing me to do this. Back in January I was looking for a place to have a football camp this summer and Nauset High School came up. Then I heard they were looking for a head football coach,” he said.

While Nauset isn’t going to be lining up against Texas or the Patriots any time soon, Sherman plans to coach his new pupils with the same dedication he’s had at his previous stops.

“I’ll tell them I expect them to act like champions on and off the field, and that we should expect the very best out of each other.”
