Former Tennessee football assistant Alex Golesh appears to be making his pitch to Vols AD Danny White with a spot on the schedule opening up.

On Friday, it was first reported that Tennessee and Nebraska were canceling a home-and-home series set for 2026 and 2027. However, White was quick to social media to clarify that the decision was far from mutual and the responsibility for the cancellation rested solely on the Huskers.

White described the Vols as “very disappointed” that the series between historical powers was canceled. He also expressed that desire with the 2026 season not too far away.

Fortunately, Golesh wants to help with the scheduling crunch, or so it would seem. The former Tennessee OC under Josh Heupel quoted White’s post on X (formerly Twitter) with a simple question and the hashtag “ComeToTheBay.”

Golesh is now the head coach at South Florida, so if he’s offering to play the Vols, it would be an interesting matchup of Heupel vs. his first OC in Knoxville:

Golesh worked under Heupel at UCF in 2020 as a co-OC and tight ends coach before following Heupel to Tennessee. He helped lead the Vols to the nation’s No. 1 scoring offense in 2022 (46.1 points per game) before accepting the job at USF.

As the head coach of the Bulls, Golesh is 14-12 overall with a pair of bowl victories. And while it’s probably unlikely that USF and Tennessee hammer out a matchup, it’s a fun proposition to ponder.
