Former Tennessee DE weighing trade options, looking for more playing time

Former Vol standout defensive end and current Philadelphia Eagle Derek Barnett is weighing out his options to play somewhere else.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Barnett is apparently gauging the market for potential trades in hopes of getting more playing time somewhere else. The Eagles hope to keep Barnett on their roster, but recognize Barnett’s minutes would be limited with their deep pass-rush roster.
A 2017 first round pick, Barnett is bound to spark the interest of several teams. In 2021, he picked up 46 tackles and 2 sacks as he helped lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance. He missed the entirety of the 2022 season after suffering a torn ACL in September.
Earlier this year, Barnett agreed to a contract restructuring that gives him $3.5 million guaranteed for the 2023 season.
Barnett has potential to be a premier pass rusher in the league, given he lands on the right team.
Barnett spent three seasons at Tennessee, recording 198 total tackles and 32 sacks on his career. He is the Vols’ all-time sacks leader.
