Former Tennessee Volunteer Josh Palmer, currently with the Los Angeles Chargers, is in the concussion protocol and will miss time this preseason, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Popper relayed the word from Chargers head coach Brandon Staley.

This is undoubtedly a blow for Palmer, who’s in his second season with the Chargers. LA took him with the No. 77 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft (third round), and he had a decent season for a rookie. Palmer played in 17 games, catching 33 passes for 353 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Speaking of decent, Palmer was more than that for Tennessee. He appeared in 47 games throughout his Vols career, starting in 36. In four seasons at Rocky Top, Palmer caught 99 passes for 1,514 yards and seven touchdowns. Four of those touchdowns came in his senior season and undoubtedly led to him being drafted rather high by the Chargers.
