Former Texas A&M QB pulled off waiver wire after Browns trade

It’s been a rollercoaster of a day from Kellen Mond.

The former Texas A&M quarterback was waived by the Cleveland Browns Thursday afternoon, but the Browns quickly changed their mind after sending quarterback Josh Dobbs and a 2024 7th-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for a 2024 5th-round pick.

The Browns then pulled Mond off the waiver before the transaction was completed.

Had the Browns dropped Mond along with Dobbs, they would have been left with only current starter Deshaun Watson and rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson on their roster for Saturday’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mond, a 24-year old drafted in 2021, has logged just a single game in his career during his rookie year with the Minnesota Vikings. In that game, he attempted only 3 passes, completing 2 for 5 yards. He did not play at all during the 2022 season.

The Browns pulling Mond off the waiver was likely just to have some stability as they take on the Chiefs on Saturday and he could very well be back on the waiver next week, but perhaps a good performance could keep him on the roster a little longer.
