Former Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman has a new job.
Sherman was named as the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes — a Canadian Football League team — on Wednesday.
“We went through a thorough selection process, but from the beginning, we knew that Mike was the man for the job,” Alouettes general manager Kavis Reed said in a statement, according to a report from GigEm247. “We liked his vision of the team and his expectations. He has experience as a head coach at the professional level and he will know how to motivate his players and push them to perform to their full potential.”
Sherman coached at Texas A&M from 2008 to 2011 — just before the Aggies joined the SEC. While in College Station, he compiled a perfectly even 25-25 record. His teams were 15-18 against the Big 12.
Before his tenure with the Aggies, he was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. Sherman led the Packers to a 57-39 record from 2000 to 2005. They won three NFC North division titles during that time.
All in all, Sherman has over three decades of NFL and NCAA coaching experience. He should be well prepared to lead the Alouettes.
