Former Vanderbilt coach and 1982 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year George MacIntyre passed away Tuesday at 76 years old, his son Matt said.

MacIntyre started at Vanderbilt as an assistant in 1973-74 and returned to Vanderbilt as the team’s head coach in 1979 until 1985. He won the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year in 1982, leading the Commodores to an 8-4 record and the Hall of Fame Classic.

It was Vanderbilt’s only bowl game until 2008.

The 1982 season was MacIntyre’s only winning season at notoriously tough Vanderbilt. He had an overall record of 25-52. He left coaching following the 1985 season at Vanderbilt, his final in Nashville.
