Former Vanderbilt football player Cory Batey was sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday for raping an unconscious female student in June 2013.

As reported by the Associated Press, the decision was made after the victim, a neuroscience and economics major at the time, said “her life was shattered as a result of the rape.”

Batey’s conviction of aggravated rape happened in April. It carries a sentence of 15 to 25 years. Prosecutors had asked for the maximum sentence.

Batey was a former three-star wide receiver as rated by 247Sports.
