The commitments keep rolling in for Florida. Shortly after earning a commitment from an in-state defensive end, the Gators earned another win on the home front when four-star defensive back Chauncey Gardner tweeted out his commitment to Florida with a picture of him holding a Gators helmet alongside Jim McElwain and several members of his staff.

Gardner, a Cocoa, Fla. native, is the No. 10 cornerback in the class of 2016, per 247sports’ industry composite, as well as the No. 17 player in Florida. At 6-feet and 194 pounds, he already has the size to play cornerback in the SEC. Scouting reports indicate he’s quick and has good overall speed, and he’s a strong tackler that plays well in press coverage.

At the high school level, Gardner does a bit of everything in the secondary. Both 247sports and Rivals list him as a cornerback, while ESPN and Scout have him as a safety.

Last month, Gardner released a top-10 list that included national powerhouses like Ohio State, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Penn State, as well as Florida’s in-state rivals Miami and Florida State. He becomes the highest-ranked member of Florida’s 2016 class and brings the Gators to five commitments. All five players hail from Florida, a good sign for McElwain’s first full recruiting class with the Gators.
