One player’s loss is another player’s gain.
That’s essentially what happened following redshirt freshman receiver Vincent Perry being ruled academically ineligible for the 2016 season this month. Perry’s No. 10 jersey will now be worn by incoming freshman receiver Tyler Byrd. Byrd had been scheduled to wear No. 15 this season for the Vols before Perry was ruled ineligible.
After initially signing with Tennessee as a defensive back, the coaching staff is hoping Byrd can provide the offense a spark and decided he should begin his Vol career on the offensive side of the ball. Despite the Vols having one of the nation’s elite special teams units, look for Byrd to also contribute with that unit as well this season.
An explosive player with the ball in his hands, the No. 10 jersey could be making plays in Knoxville in every facet of the game over the next four years.
