Fueling Palmetto Bowl hate: Clemson lineman shares favorite college memory

South Carolina and Clemson don’t face off for another few weeks, but in the Palmetto State, the game is always on the mind of the fans, players and coaches.

Tigers offensive lineman Gage Cervenka is no exception.

When asked on Tuesday about his favorite memory during his time at Clemson, it would have been understandable if he had said winning the national title twice or the ACC championships or any of the big wins that Dabo Swinney has led his team to.

Not for Cervenka.

“That’s a good question,” he said. “It’s going on my fifth year. I would say, it is crazy enough, but the South Carolina game, just going up there and just being in a hostile environment, a team I really don’t like growing up a Clemson fan. There’s a lot of hatred, I guess you could say. It’s fun just going there and dominating the game.”

The game he is referring to came in 2017 when the Tigers went into Williams-Brice Stadium and beat the rival Gamecocks 34-10, the third win in a current five-game win streak in the series.

Cervenka will get another chance at creating a memory in Columbia when the Tigers take on the Gamecocks on Nov. 30. I’m sure South Carolina fans will be ready to greet him.
