Garcia’s QB matchup of the week

The quarterback matchup this week is a no brainer. It’s a clash of two of the top ranked teams in the land and it has huge playoff implications.

The matchup between Dak Prescott of Mississippi State and Blake Sims of Alabama is going to be an epic one. I’m really looking forward to how the Dan Mullen offense and Prescott will perform against this Bama defense. I do think that Dak runs a better offense and is a better runner, but Sims has really impressed me with his arm and his scramble ability.

The Mississippi State defense hasn’t been great, but also hasn’t been terrible at all. They shut down, for the most part, Nick Marshall and Auburns offense, and the Kenny Hill led Aggie offense. Those games were in Starkville and the Bulldogs were pretty fortunate with getting a bunch of early turnovers in those two games. I think that Alabama is going to have a solid game plan on offense and will give Sims the chance to succeed. Coach Mullen, on the other hand, will also have a good game plan to get Prescott involved as early and often as possible. The Bulldogs are going to need a huge game from him if they want to get out of Tuscaloosa with a victory.  This could easily propel Prescott back into being the front runner for the Heisman trophy if he has a big game.

I’m also looking forward to what kind of offensive game plan that Lane Kiffin is going to have set up for this one. Will it be more of the typical run heavy offense or the west coast type offense that he has been running all this year? The Mississippi State front 7 is pretty damn talented so I would expect to see Kiffin put the ball in Sims hands a lot more. He’s also coming off a huge come from behind win down in Baton Rouge last weekend so the momentum is key right now for Sims and the Crimson Tide. If they can protect Sims on offense and stop the Dak Attack on defense, this game could get ugly. I don’t think that’s going to happen and fully expect a great game by both quarterbacks. Buckle your seatbelts folks because I think this will be one of the better games we see all season. The winner of this one should be ranked the undisputed number 1 in the country. Get ready to hear the complaints from the non SEC people.
