LSU came up short against Georgia in the SEC Championship game on Saturday, falling 50-30.

The Tigers had their moments, especially on offense, but mistakes and a couple of odd plays (a blocked FG returned for a touchdowns and a ricocheted interception) proved to be too much to overcome.

LSU dropped to 9-4 with the loss and will now wait to see where it will be headed for a bowl game.

One huge bright spot for the Tigers on Saturday was the play of backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

The freshman signal caller replaced an injured Jayden Daniels (ankle) in the 2nd half and looked both good and fearless.

The 6-2, 194-pounder completed 15-of-27 passes for 294 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception.

It wasn’t enough to help the Tigers recover from a 35-10 halftime deficit, but Brian Kelly and LSU look like they have a quality young QB for the future.

And not surprisingly given how he played, Nussmeier was garnering plenty of praise on social media Saturday evening:
