Opening thoughts: “You never know what’s going to happen. As always, our team battled. “There’s a lot of things we can improve on, but there were also a lot of outstanding efforts. We worked well with the defense, but the offense executed better in the second half. We utilized field position well.”

On playing better in the second half: “First of all, the offense played better. They executed better. They played catch better. They didn’t have penalties. Things like that. They blocked better. That’s why we played better.”

On freshman punter Corey Fatony: “He’s so young and has so much talent. It’s encouraging.”

On dropped passes: “It’s really, really not playing catch well. That sounds real simple but playing catch is, ‘I’m open, you throw it to me, it’s a catchable ball and I catch it.’ We dropped several balls that could have been some big plays. We don’t play catch very well.”

On running back situation: “Our top three running backs were dinged. That’s where (quarterback) Maty (Mauk) came in. He did some great things.”

On moving forward: “I’m very proud of our team for battling, but the sense of urgency … I told our team, we’re not even close to how good we can be. But next week we’re going to grind through practice.”
