Since the 1950s, the Georgia-Florida rivalry has been unofficially tabbed (but widely known) as “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.” But this season, the game is being promoted as the “River City Showdown,” referring to the city of Jacksonville’s nickname.
You can find t-shirts and sweatshirts with the game’s new name on both the Florida and Georgia team shop websites … but we’re not too sure if there will be many sales.
All you have to do is log in to Twitter to find plenty of backlash from fans, who seem to be rather adamant in refusing to call the cocktail-induced series by its unfamiliar title:
The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is not called the River City Showdown.
It's called The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

River City Showdown sounds like a mens softball tournament.

Stop trying to make this a thing, schools. The game already has an excellent name. It's OK to acknowledge that people enjoy a cocktail. https://t.co/Q0ZUdAIfo9
