Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity denied reports that he wanted to fire Mark Richt after last season.
On Thursday, USA Today claimed that McGarity wanted to replace Richt, the Bulldogs’ football coach, after last year, but was overruled by Georgia president Jere Morehead. On Thursday afternoon, McGarity said that wasn’t true.
“Simple answer. It wasn’t true,” McGarity said in a text to DawgNation.
The UGA athletic director also told USA Today, “There isn’t one ounce of truth to that. That is not right.”
Georgia went 10-3 last year. After the season, Richt received a raise and a contract extension, as did several members of his staff.
The Bulldogs are 5-3 this season, and have lost three of their last four games.
