A notable player was missing from Georgia’s practice Friday.
Senior defensive back Deandre Baker was not spotted at the session, according to a report from 247Sports.com. The report noted that Baker practiced both Monday and Thursday and is on the team’s interview list prior to the Sugar Bowl, and the cause for his absence is currently unclear.
Freshmen cornerbacks Eric Stokes and Tyson Campbell received first-team reps in place of Baker.
Baker leads the the No. 5 Bulldogs’ with two interceptions and 10 passes defensed this season. He won the Jim Thorpe Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s best defensive back.
Georgia will practice again before breaking for Christmas and traveling to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, in which the Bulldogs (11-2) will face No. 15 Texas (9-4) at 8:45 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day.
