Julian Humphrey, a Georgia defensive back who appeared in each of the Bulldogs’ 2024 games prior to the Georgia Tech matchup, announced his decision to transfer out of the program Sunday.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank the man above for everything he has done for me, and I will forever be grateful for everything!” Humphrey wrote in a note posted to social media. “I also wanted to say thank you to all of the loyal UGA fans along the way, thank you. With that being said after careful consideration, i will be entering my name in the portal with 2 years left of eligibility.”

Humphrey was a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2022 out of Webster, Texas. He appeared in three games as a freshman before seeing the field nine times in a reserve role during the 2023 season.

Humphrey had been receiving more playing time this season, as he has registered 9 tackles and 4 pass breakups in 11 appearances this season. However, he appears to be in search of more playing time at a different destination.

In examining his potential suitors, Humphrey also received offers from the likes of Florida, Alabama, Arkansas LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M out of high school, as well as a laundry list of other Power 4 schools.

This is a hit for a Bulldog secondary that will already lose the services of star safeties Malaki Starks and Dan Jackson at the conclusion of this season. Thus, Kirby Smart may have the unit be one of his most sought-after position groups in this upcoming transfer portal cycle.
