Darris Smith is no longer a member of the Georgia football team.

Kirby Smart announced the departure of the second-year edge defender Tuesday after practice. According to reporters in Athens, Smart did not offer further details on the situation. Smith missed recent games for undisclosed reasons.

As of publishing time, Smith is still listed on the GeorgiaDogs.com roster. His bio shows that he played in 5 games this season. Smith had recorded 3 tackles, including 1 for loss, and a pass breakup.

Last season, Smith made 11 appearances. He was primarily used as a reserve defensive lineman and contributed on kick coverage. Smith recorded tackles in each of UGA’s College Football Playoff wins over Ohio State and TCU.

A former Appling County standout from Baxley, Georgia, Smith was rated 4-stars, the No. 18 recruit in the Peach State, No. 14 edge and No. 163 prospect overall in the Class of 2022 on the 247Sports Composite. He signed with UGA over offers from 10 other schools, including Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee.

No. 1 Georgia faces Florida in Jacksonville on Saturday. The annual World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party game is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
