The Georgia Bulldogs announced Friday that they have extended the contract of defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt by one year. Pruitt’s salary will increase from $850,000 to $1.3 million.
The new deal makes him the third highest-paid assistant coach in college football and the second highest in the SEC behind Alabama’s Kirby Smart.
“Our defense has performed overall at a very high level this season and much of it is due to Jeremy’s leadership,” Richt said in a statement. “It’s important that we solidify his tenure at Georgia and continue to build our defense in all areas including recruiting, coaching and player development.”
The Bulldogs ranked No. 18 overall in total defense, No. 5 in passing defense and No. 61 in rushing defense.
Pruitt joined Georgia’s staff in 2014 after guiding FSU’s defense to a BCS Championship in 2013. The coordinator began his coaching career as an assistant to Nick Saban in 2007 and served as the team’s defensive backs coach from 2010-12.
