The Georgia men’s basketball team may still be working on its 2022 recruiting class, but it’s already gotten a head start for the 2023 cycle.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs landed a commitment from 4-star guard Marquavious Brown, according to Rivals.com’s Dan McDonald. Brown currently attends Newton High School in Covington, Ga., and is the first member of Georgia’s 2023 recruiting class.

Brown is the No. 108 overall recruit in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 23 shooting guard and the No. 8 player out of Georgia. He decided to stay in state and play for the Bulldogs, rather than pick one of his other finalists: Missouri, Texas Tech and UAB.

“I chose Georgia because the coaching staff is the perfect fit for me,” Brown said, per McDonald. “They’ll push me to be the best player I can, and it’s the best spot for mom because she’ll be closer and can be there with me through my process. The school is great for me academically. I’m definitely ready to get going with the guys there!”

It didn’t take long for Brown to decide to play for head coach Tom Crean and the Bulldogs, who just gave him an offer last week. He then visited Georgia this past weekend, when the No. 1-ranked football team notched a win over Missouri.
