The son of former Georgia defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder, Montgomery VanGorder has been working for Kirby Smart since 2019. He is listed as an offensive quality control assistant on the UGA staff directory.
A change to NCAA rules allowed quality control assistants and analysts to be more involved in on-field instruction, hence VanGorder being referred to as assistant quarterbacks coach. Mike Bobo, Georgia’s offensive coordinator, holds the title of quarterbacks coach.
The UGA staff will be focusing on the development of Gunner Stockton at quarterback. Stockton took over for an injured Carson Back in the 2024 postseason. Beck has since transferred to Miami for his final season of eligibility. The Bulldogs also return Ryan Puglisi and signed 2 QBs in their 2025 recruiting class.
