Preseason injuries aren’t anything new. But, add to it the pressure of being defending national champions, and thinning of the position ranks could be a bit of a problem for Georgia.
On Saturday, freshman RB Andrew Paul suffered an injury during the second scrimmage, limping off the field to be evaluated by the training staff, according to DawgNation.
This isn’t the first setback for the Bulldogs’ offense already this season. Redshirt sophomore Arian Smith is rehabilitating after ankle surgery earlier this month. Top producer Kendall Milton is tending to a hamstring injury. Freshman De’Nyland Morrissette was expected to make an immediate impact, but has been out while dealing with a hyperextended knee.
Earlier this summer during practice, head coach Kirby Smart talked about the impact and contributions of freshman Paul and Bransen Robinson. “These two young guys are different,” Smart said. “They’re a little heavier, thicker, run behind their pads and they probably don’t show up best until days like today, because they’re a little harder to tackle.” At a position that is only scholarship players deep, the lost of Paul could be felt well into the start of the season.
