Georgia tops Auburn in SEC Softball Tournament 14-inning thriller

SEC softball fans are being treated to plenty of extra innings in early tournament action.

LSU and Alabama went 14 innings Wednesday for the longest game in SEC Softball Tournament history. Hours after the Tiger walk-off win, 7-seed Georgia and 10-seed Auburn played another 14 innings. In a crushing blow to host Auburn, Wednesday night’s game was also a walk-off.

AU and UGA were knotted up 2-2 from the 4th inning through the 13th inning. Auburn broke the tie in a big way when KK McCrary went opposite field, launching a 3-run blast over the wall in right field to put the Tigers up 5-2.

Georgia entered the bottom of the 14th inning needing 3 runs. The Bulldogs scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the offense had been quiet for the next 12 innings that followed. In crunch time, the UGA bats came back to life.

With nobody out, Jayda Kearney delivered Georgia’s answer: a 3-run homer to left-center field, tying the game up 5-5.

It looked like a 15th inning might be played as two outs were recorded with the game 5-5. Instead, Sarah Gordon put an end to the game with a solo shot go give UGA the 6-5 walk-off win.

The SEC Softball Tournament has another full day of action ahead with 4 games. Georgia is set to face 2-seed Florida in the third game of the day, scheduled for approximately 5 p.m. ET. The game will air on the SEC Network.

We’ll see what the Dawgs have left in the tank after a 14-inning thriller!
