After a two practice in full-pads on Thursday, the Georgia Bulldogs will be off the rest of the weekend before resuming practice on Monday.
The early bye, a rarity for the ‘Dawgs, has been embraced between the hedges.
“I was really pleased with the work we got in today,” head coach Mark Richt said. “Actually, we did a good job all week of going through scout work and focusing on fundamentals. The guys were focused and did what they needed to do. When we start practicing again on Monday, we’ll have a great start to our game plan.”
The last time Georgia had a bye this early in the season was 2002, when they also opened with Clemson and played South Carolina in week 3.
Coming off arguably the best win in college football in week 1 and facing an SEC East rival in South Carolina next weekend, the off week was a welcome sight on the schedule.
Richt and his staff have not been easily impressed by their team’s season-opening win or by the national attention that has come with it.
“It’s a good combination of both [correcting mistakes and game planning for South Carolina],” Richt said. “We spent a good bit of time [Tuesday] correcting specific mistakes from the game and then the rest of the week was designed to split between good fundamental work, just getting better at blocking, tackling and special teams. But the other part was some scout work against South Carolina.”
