There was plenty of reaction to Georgia being placed at No. 9 in the first College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings of 2020. With a close win over Mississippi State on Saturday and losses to Alabama and Florida on their ledger, several people on social media felt that the Dawgs’ ranking was too high considering their resume.

However, one person that felt that the Bulldogs’ ranking by the committee was the correct call was former Alabama quarterback and current ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy, bringing up the Dawgs’ dominant win over Auburn on Oct. 3 as an example.

“They beat #22 Auburn…convincingly,” McElroy tweeted on Tuesday. “My question… who else you going to put there? What’s Miami’s best win? Indiana’s?”

McElroy did concede that other teams who might have felt they deserved a higher ranking may have had a case.

“I think Oklahoma, BYU and Iowa St. have an argument, but outside of those three, I’m not sure there’s a gripe to be made,” McElroy concluded.
