Stetson Bennett is the ultimate underdog “Dawg” story in college football after winning back-to-back national titles at Georgia. With only a handful of passers garnering the title of “double champ” where does Bennett list all-time on Georgia’s Mount Rushmore?

ESPN’s Greg McElroy believes that Bennett is currently No. 2 on the Dawgs’ top 4 rankings following his success with the program. During a segment on the “Always College Football” podcast, McElroy said that only former Heisman Trophy running back Hershel Walker carries a bigger stick in Athens.

“There’s a bunch of great all-time Georgia Bulldogs that I grew up with from 1998 until now in 2023,” McElroy said. “There’s a bunch. I don’t think any of them can be in front of Stetson Bennett.

Bennett took over in 2020 as a part-time starter following his run at Jones County Community College before being replaced by JT Daniels midway through the season. Daniels would end up suffering an oblique injury in 2021, opening the door for Bennett to return to the starting role.

In 2 seasons, Bennett threw for 6,989 yards, 56 touchdowns and 14 interceptions en route to wins over Alabama and TCU in the national championship. In his final game against the Horned Frogs, Bennett threw for 304 yards and scored 6 touchdowns on the way to a 65-7 victory.

“When you really look at the accolades and accomplishments, it might be closer than you think,” McElroy said when comparing the success of Walker and Bennett.
