Greg McElroy doesn’t think Alabama is “hungover” from its win 0ver a previously No. 2-ranked Georgia team.

And he doesn’t seem to believe that victory had anything to do with the reason behind why the Crimson Tide fell 40-35 to the Vanderbilt Commodores on the road, despite some of the suggestions that Kalen DeBoer’s team could still be riding high as it faced a “lesser” opponent that proved to be anything but that in Nashville.

While it may be difficult for one to wrap their mind around, Vanderbilt, yes those same Commodores that used to be a guaranteed “W” on practically every team’s schedule, was simply the better team.

“I had expected to turn on the tape and for it to feel fluky,” McElroy said. “I expected to turn on the tape and see Bama looking lethargic. I expected to see Bama making pivotal mistakes that would lead to easy and cheap yardage for Vanderbilt. But what I did not see was a team that looked hungover. All I’ve read and all I’ve seen is how hungover Alabama was. I didn’t think that team looked super hungover.”

Alabama didn’t appear to be playing below standard because it thought that it could, but rather could not keep of with the offense of Clark Lea’s team.

“I looked at the other side of the football, and I watched Vanderbilt, how they dominated offensively,” McElroy said. “How Diego Pavia and this offensive staff were always seemingly one step ahead, how they were able to completely gas the Alabama defense… Mama just flat out got outplayed.

For the first time in forever, Vanderbilt is a legitimate team to watch. The Commodores will look to keep the good times rolling as they face a road test against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. ET.
