Greg McElroy explains argument that isn’t being had ahead of CFP rankings reveal

Greg McElroy believes there is an important argument that is not being had ahead of Sunday’s much-anticipated College Football Playoff rankings reveal. And it has everything to do with the SMU Mustangs, one of the most talked-about teams when it comes to this topic.
There are questions abound surrounding whether Alabama or SMU will edge its way in.
“If the (College Football Playoff) Committee liked Alabama over Miami based on resume, they’re probably going to like Bama over SMU based on resume as well,” McElroy said. “The other thing that I think is probably worth mentioning, and I don’t really think anyone has mentioned this, if you really don’t like SMU’s strength of schedule, and if SMU lost their game against their biggest opponent, and that being Clemson here in the ACC Championship Game, then why is there not a conversation to be has about potentially SMU and Indiana?”
Who will the committee put in the CFP: SMU or Alabama?!?
And is SMU vs. Indiana a conversation worth having? #CFBPlayoffs | #CFP2024 | #RollTide | #PonyUpDallas pic.twitter.com/0kyTmaFOvP

Indiana is considered far more of a lock for the College Football Playoff, but in reality, there is not too much of a difference between the Hoosiers and the Mustangs when you compare their cases. Is this a case of conference bias?
Could be. Indiana hardly looked convincing in its 38-15 loss to Ohio State…
“Indiana, they played one really difficult opponent and it didn’t go well for them. And everyone was saying, well, if SMU got blown out, then they’d be out,” McElroy continued.
“Well, Indiana got blown out (by Ohio State) and they’re still in. And their record was the exact same as SMU’s prior to the conference championship game. I don’t feel like that conversation is really being had, probably because Indiana is a Big Ten team… I don’t think there really is a right answer.”
It will be interesting to see how things shake out in the final reveal, but this is certainly food for thought.
