Greg McElroy had some trouble ranking the one loss teams on Tuesday’s version of Always College Football.
Teams like Louisville, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Oklahoma all have lost one game so far. Missouri should also be considered among the group.
There are a lot of factors to consider. The best when it comes to the eye test was Oregon for McElroy. The best win in his eyes was Oklahoma over Texas. A lot of things go into figuring who the best among the group is.
“I really don’t know who the best one-loss team is. Do you guys know? Eye test, the best one loss team is probably Oregon. If we’re go off best win, the best win is probably Oklahoma over Texas,” said McElroy. “The second-best win is probably Texas over Alabama. Obviously on the road, so maybe you give that one extra credit. Penn State might have the best defense. Do we need to add Ole Miss to that group? What about Missouri? How about Louisville?”
McElroy can’t remember a time where it was so hard to rank one loss teams. McElroy had Oregon as the best, with Oklahoma coming in at No. 2.
“I can’t recall a time in which it’s more difficult to assess and rank team 6,7,8,9,10, 11, 12 whatever all the way through the one loss candidates right now. If we’re gonna be a prisoner of the moment we’re absolutely gonna put Oregon at the top of the list,” said McElroy. “The second highest should be Oklahoma. You’re gonna say, ‘Greg they have to drop, if you look at the AP Poll they dropped four spots. How can you not drop them more?’ Because they beat the team I have right behind them in the Texas Longhorns.”
So many good one loss teams are in college football this year, with each having their own case for the best.
