Greg Sankey insists it would be ‘wise’ for leaders to re-examine extended CFP format
Greg Sankey is refusing to rule anything out when it comes to expanding the College Football Playoff.
The SEC commissioner joined the Paul Finebaum Show on Tuesday to discuss the current climate of college football. When asked if the leaders of the CFP committee had met to discuss the realignment, Sankey said “not yet,” but “it’s wise for us to take a step back and reconsider what the format might look like given these changing circumstances.”

Of course, Sankey is referring to the recent announcement that USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington will join the Big Ten in the 2024 season. Additionally, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF are joining the Big 12 this upcoming season with Arizona, Arizona State and Utah set to join in 2024.
Finally, Oklahoma and Texas are also bolting for the SEC in 2024.
With so much movement, it makes sense that the entire CFP format will need to be adjusted. It appears that Sankey and other power brokers in CFB know this as well.
