Fans can scratch another team off the list of potential destinations for Nico Iamaleava, according to a report from Tuesday afternoon. This time, it’s a Group of 5 school that is reportedly pulling out of the pursuit of the quarterback.
According to Pete Nakos with On3 Sports, Tulane out of the AAC is pulling out of the chase for Iamaleava. The Green Wave went 9-5 during Jon Sumrall’s first season with the program but battled their own issues with the transfer portal. Star quarterback Darian Mensah hit the transfer portal and headed to Duke with reports of a key NIL offer involved.
The list of programs uninterested in pursuing Iamaleava after his unceremonious exit from Tennessee continues to grow, and that’s before the transfer portal even officially opens. USC, Notre Dame, UNC and now Tulane are the early teams reportedly dropping out of any pursuit of the QB.
It remains to be seen where Iamaleava turns next, especially with a separate Tuesday report from On3 indicating multiple teams are waiting for the QB’s NIL demands to drop before pursuing his services. If that proves to be true, it is hard to envision a bidding war ensuing that would give Iamaleava a bigger deal than he was originally slated to receive with the Vols.
