Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn has voiced his endorsement for former Auburn QB Cam Newton as the NFL MVP.
According to seccountry.com, Malzahn attended a banquet in Charlotte last night where he announced his support for the Panthers quarterback.
“It’d be tough to find somebody better right now,” Malzahn said. “There’s some real good players, but with what he means to his team, he deserves it.”
Newton has had a stellar season, leading Carolina to a 12-0 record, going 218 of 373 for 2,797 yards and 25 TDs on the season. He has also rushed for 476 yards and 7 TDs.
Malzahn isn’t the only one who thinks Newton deserves the award. According to the Denver Post, Newton rightfully overtook Patriots QB Tom Brady after keeping the Panthers undefeated despite an abysmal defense this weekend in New Orleans.
“I think now everyone is starting to see the pieces of the puzzle come together,” Malzahn said. “I’m very proud of him.”
