Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that junior defensive back Stephen Roberts has returned to the team following a one-game suspension, according to AL.com.

“He will be back this week,” Malzahn told AL.com.

Roberts was in line to remain a starting safety for the Tigers before he was arrested on Aug. 24 on misdemeanor changers for carrying an unlicensced firearm and attempting to evade arrest. He played in all 13 games last season, racking up 26 tackles and three pass breakups.

Auburn started juniors Nick Ruffin and Tray Matthews at the safety spots, and they — as well as the entire defense, for that matter — played admirably against No. 2 Clemson’s explosive offense. The pair finished as the team’s leading tacklers in the 19-13 loss to Clemson.

Auburn hosts Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
