Texas A&M fans enjoyed great quarterback play from Kellen Mond the last few years, but a new era began Saturday night with redshirt freshman Haynes King leading the offense.
King saw action in two games a year ago and he has been a hot topic of conversation when it comes to the 6th-ranked Aggies heading into the season.
And the 6-3, 200-pounder didn’t disappoint in his first quarter as Texas A&M’s starting signal caller, as he completed 7-of-12 passes for 62 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown pass to Ainias Smith, in the opening 15 minutes.
King also added 15 yards on 2 carries on the ground in leading his team to a 10-3 lead after one quarter against Kent State.
A native of Longview, Texas, King was a highly sought after recruit in the 2020 class, as he was rated by 247Sports as a 4-star prospect and the No. 110 overall prospect in his class.
